The second edition of Intelligent Building Workshop (IBW) co hosted by AIRAH, CSIRO, CIBSE, and Arup will take place on 19th Nov at the Melbourne convention centre. The event will happen along the sidelines of the DBI international conference. The first edition of IBW happened in Sydney during Aug 2025 attracting wide audience interest and was hugely successful.

The primary objective of this workshop is to demystify the role of AI and data in buildings, while offering a glimpse into emerging trends and developments in this space. We’ve designed the program around three themes — Now, New, and Next — to guide us through the current challenges and learnings, innovative approaches, and what lies ahead. This year the organisers have decided to invite presentations on the three thematic areas of the workshop.

We welcome presentations on the three topic areas – NOW, NEW and NEXT broadly based on intelligent building solution maturity.

Presentations in the thematic area NOW shall share examples of how AI and data is currently being used in the built environment sector : talks on ‘promise vs the reality’, existing challenges faced by the industry in scale up, digital physical gap, enablers (data, cyber security, tools) fall into this category.

Presentations in the thematic area NEW shall focus on pilot scale trials, new developments, emerging approaches on use of AI and data in the next 2 to 5 years. Predictive maintenance, portfolio level AI deployment, adoption of generative AI, enablers (data, cyber security, tools) are some topics that fall into this category.

Presentations in the thematic area NEXT shall focus on AI tools and building related AI needs in the next 2 to 10 years. Topics such as grid integrated controls, Digital Twin based management, remotely controlled buildings, enablers (data, cyber security, tools) are some topics that will fit into this category.
