Energy flexibility in commercial buildings

Location
Room 109 | Level 1
Time
19/11/2026, 3:30 pm-3:55 pm

It is becoming increasingly important for electricity consumers to become flexible with when they use, store and share their electricity as Australia transitions to a renewable electricity system. Commercial buildings have the capability to play a significant role in supporting the grid, while maximising cost savings and revenue alongside other ESG benefits.

Building on the findings of our recent feasibility study, NABERS has begun a three-year Australian Government-supported program of work exploring how energy flexibility can be recognised within commercial building ratings. This presentation will provide an update on early proof-of-concept metrics, alongside outlining the opportunities and challenges to energy flexibility and the market mechanisms that will enable greater participation. Attendees will gain practical insights into the future of energy flexibility and the role buildings can play in supporting a cleaner, more reliable energy system.
